Attorney Terry Posey Jr. has been selected from among five applicants to fill the vacancy created after Doug Barry chose not to seek re-election in November.
Trustees John Morris and Don Culp voted Tuesday night to appoint Posey, a private practice attorney and UD School of Law graduate.
Posey, a Miami Twp. resident for several years, earned his bachelor’s at the University of Virginia.
He works with the law partnership of Gottschlich & Portune.
Posey also sits on the board of trustees and the executive committee for the Dayton Society of Natural History.

Morris said he and Trustee Don Culp plan to vote on a candidate tonight, but declined to identify that person.
The chosen candidate will serve out the remainder of the term of the seat formerly occupied by Culp.
Culp, who was elected to a four-year term in 2017, in November ran unopposed for the seat formerly occupied by Barry.
Culp then resigned the seat to which he was elected two years ago.
Trustees are set to meet at 6 p.m. in the Miami Twp. Government Center, 2700 Lyons Road.
