The Hillandale Family of Communities operates three personalized retirement and health care facilities — Doverwood Village, Birchwood Care Center (also in Fairfield Twp.) and Chesterwood Village in West Chester Twp.
Brent Dixon, chief operating officer of the Hillandale Family Communities, said the new name fits in better with those of the other communities and creates a separation from the corporate Hillandale identity.
“For us, it’s just more of a clarification,” Dixon said.
The Hillandale Family of Communities was started in 1962 by James E. Dixon, Brent’s grandfather . The company is still owned and operated by family members spanning three generations.
Chesterwood Village was added in 1995 and features the company’s “Main Street” design concept, which includes a pub, a salon, a pet shop, a church, a cinema and more.
Doverwood’s $4 million, multi-phase project began this summer and will reach completion in early 2011. Along with increasing the total number of beds from 50 to 75 (32 of which will be private rehabilitation suites), a state-of-the-art wiliness and therapy facility will be added. The second phase will consist of assisted living apartments.
Eventually there will also be independent living facilities and a full Main Street similar to the one at Chesterwood Village, company officials said.
“We’re catering to a rehabilitation, short-term stay client,” Dixon said. “There’s a definite need in that area for state-of-the-art rehabilitation equipment and services and private suites.”
