State troopers said the crash was caused by a backup that formed due to a vehicle fire near the I-70 west exit to Ohio 72, dispatched around 11 a.m.

Around 11:30 a.m., the van slammed into the back of a Snap-On tools truck that was slowing down for the backup caused by the fire, investigators said.

The driver of the van was trapped in their vehicle as a result of the crash. They were extricated and transported to Miami Valley Hospital by a medical helicopter but their condition wasn’t available.

The far left lane remains the only lane blocked on I-70 west.
