Shelton died from a gunshot wound to the neck Tuesday, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.
His death was ruled a homicide.
Shelton and a second teen, a 16-year-old, were injured in a double shooting on Catalpa Drive Sunday.

The other teen was in good condition as of Tuesday, according to police.
No arrests have been made in the case.
Shelton was a freshman at Paul Laurence Dunbar Early College High School, according to Dayton Public Schools.
He was a wide receiver and cornerback on the freshman football team, ran track and field and was an AAU national champion.
Counselors were available for Dayton public students and staff following Shelton’s death on Tuesday.
