Several train cars derail at Snyder Park

UPDATE @ 6:55 p.m.: Snyder Park Road has been damaged by the derailment of several train cars that occurred when the wheels from one of the cars came off the tracks, said a crew member working to repair the situation.

The crew lifted the train back on the track.

Snyder Park Road — not Plum Street — will remain closed at least two more hours because of the damage, crew members said.

FIRST REPORT

Several train cars derailed at Snyder Park, just west of Plum Street, but did not tip over.

Springfield police were dispatched at about 2:30 p.m. and crews were on scene at 5:30 p.m. cleaning up the scene.

No one was injured, police said.

The train is blocking the park entrance at Plum Street, but all other entrances remain open, police said.
