The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is offering active shooter training to churches.

The 16-hour course will train church members in weapons handling and shooting. The training includes advance-shooting techniques with eight hours in a classroom and eight hours at a range, according to a release from Shelby County Sheriff John Lenhart. The training would qualify trainees to obtain their CCW.

The classroom portion includes tactics, gunshot first aid and legal requirements.

Deputies will help churches prepare a readiness evaluation, training and drills and develop policies and procedures, according to the release.

Last week, about 100 Butler County churches expressed interest in free CCW training offered by Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones.
