The adult is expected to survive, though his condition is not known, the chief said. He did not have the ages of either victim.
He also said he's not sure if the victims are related but police are relatively sure they know who the shooters are and that tonight's violence is an extension of previous violence that has occurred in the neighborhood. The names of the victims and the people believed to be involved are no strangers to the police department, he said.
"I know the families have had enough," Chief Bucheit said. "I don't know what it's going to take to get these young men to understand exactly the consequences to this and the pain they are causing and have caused."
According to the preliminary investigation, police were dispatched to the 800 block of South Front Street just after 6:30 p.m. on a report of multiple shots fired. They found the victims, who were taken to separate hospitals.
Because investigators are hearing names familiar to them in terms of possible suspects, the chief said he's hoping to make a quick arrest.
"They knew who they were targeting," he said. "This is contained, my opinion, to a relatively small handful of people."

Meantime, he said, police are working to make sure there is no carryover violence from tonight's shooting.
"It's a tragic situation out here tonight for this family. For both families involved, it's senseless."
Chief Bucheit asked citizens who have information that could help police to call Crime Stoppers, 513-352-3040.
