MORE LOCAL NEWS: Sears Holding to close Kmart, Sears stores
Madeline Iseli, Sinclair senior vice president for advancement, said the college envisions a facility that would be a cultural community education center. Basic courses could be offered at the new facility, along with classes of interest to local employers and their employees.
Once the property is purchased, Iseli said there would be a transition period of one to two years. In that time, research would determine what kind of courses would be offered there.
"And talking with employers," she said, "Employers particularly in that quadrant. What are the programs that you need for our graduates?"
The Clyo Road property is owned by Far Hills Church. Real estate agent Tom Kretz is acting as spokesman for the church on the project. He said the building and property are a good fit for Sinclair.
"Their 25 to 50 year plan for this campus is unbelievable with Cornerstone, the redevelopment of Sugarcreek Plaza and then Sinclair coming here with jobs and with students. It's a huge impact," Kretz said.
Sinclair's request for release of funding for the purchase is scheduled to be considered by the State Controlling Board at the Statehouse in Columbus on Monday.
Adam Murka, chief of staff at Sinclair, said Monday’s decision is part of a series of state and local approvals that must occur before the purchase of the building and land can be made final.
