Speed limit to change on I-75

The Ohio Department of Transportation plans to “white out” portions of speed limit signs along Ohio’s interstates to advise truck drivers they can now travel at 65 mph on those roads, effective Wednesday, July 1. House Bill 2, approved in April, does away with the requirement that trucks over 4 tons and noncommercial buses limit their speed to 55 mph on interstate highways.

Putting reflective white tape over that portion of the speed limit signs will keep the state from having to take down and replace countless roadway signs, according to ODOT officials.

The change applies only to mostly rural and suburban interstates — not U.S. routes, state routes or other multi-lane divided highways — where currently the speed limits are split between 65 mph and 55 mph.

ODOT officials say they don’t know how many signs will have to be changed, but they hope to change them all in one day.
