SPRINGBORO — Patty Dudley and Judy Brandabur celebrated Monday, July 13, after learning Springboro was recognized as the 41st best place in America to live by Money magazine .

“We wanted to bring up our kids here,” Dudley said, outside her Main Street home, built in 1894.

The city was one of six Ohio cities making the list, based on income, buying power, housing prices, schools and commuting to gauge quality of life.

Money Magazine officials didn’t respond to questions about its ratings.

Brandabur said, “We love Springboro. It’s a warm and friendly place.”

Westerville, Highland Heights, Solon, Twinsburg and Medina were the other Ohio cities recognized.

Springboro, one of Ohio’s most affluent cities, exceeded the “best places average” for median income by $7,000, and for family purchase power by $16,000, according to Money.

While the magazine considered a community’s schools, last week, state auditors recommended Springboro — which cut about $3 million, including 30 jobs, after voters rejected four consecutive levies for more operating money — cut another $3 million from its budget.

Still, residents point out the district is ranked Excellent with Distinction by the Ohio Department of Education.

“The levy is gonna pass. It’s just a question of when,” Mayor John Agenbroad said. “It is a great place to live.”
