Springfield nurse practitioner indicted for drug trafficking

A Springfield nurse practitioner was indicted for felony drug trafficking, according to a press release from the State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy.

Douglas Shrewsbury was indicted on 11 counts of aggravated trafficking in drugs and nine counts of aggravated possession of drugs, read the release.

The Board of Pharmacy reportedly began its joint investigation with the Springfield Police Department in July 2017 due to concerns that Shrewsbury was operating  a pain management clinic without the proper license and was issuing prescriptions illegally.

In November 2017, search warrants were executed at his office and home in Springfield, according to the release.

Prescription drugs and patient records were seized during the searches, but no arrests were made at the time, read the release.
