Maya Koehler, a Springfield resident now doing her medical residency in Chicago, was a winner on Wednesday’s episode of “The Price is Right.”

Koehler was one of the first four called out of the audience, bid $1 to win the item up for bid to get on stage, then successfully played the “Bargain Game” to win a washer/dryer valued at $1,400. Her luck ran out at the “Big Wheel Spin.”

That’s OK with her mother and father, Betty and Bill, who were in the studio audience at CBS Television City to see their daughter be a winner.

She ran onto the stage, hugged show host Drew Carey and proudly told the TV world she was from Springfield, Ohio.

When he announced that she had won the washer/dryer, Maya jumped around the stage in her black leggings and a blue T-shirt featuring the words “Bill Koehler turns 90” and his picture on the front and back of the shirt.

“My husband cried and cried,” Mrs. Koehler said in a telephone interview Thursday night.

Maya is doing her residency through Rush Medical College, her mother said, after she earned her undergraduate degree from Purdue University.

Mrs. Koehler said family and friends in Springfield and in Kentucky watched Maya’s appearance, which was taped in October.
