State patrol: Female pedestrian struck, killed by pickup truck in Middletown

UPDATE @ 8:47 p.m.: The pedestrian killed in Middletown is a female who was struck by a pickup truck as she crossed North University Boulevard.

Sgt. Brian Bost, Butler Post, Ohio Highway State Patrol, said the female was crossing in the intersection at Woodlawn Avenue when the truck, headed south on University, hit her.

There is no crosswalk where she was hit, Sgt. Bost said.

The impact knocked the female off the road and into a grassy area. Only her shoes remain in the street.

The pickup truck has been towed. The male driver and his passenger were not injured.

Bost said the investigation is in its early stages, so he cannot discuss whether the driver or the pedestrian is at fault.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal pedestrian strike at North University Boulevard and Woodlawn Avenue in Middletown.

Middletown police alerted the state patrol about 6:30 p.m. The coroner has been called to the scene.
