Police were called to Broadway Elementary School late this morning after a staff member observed a suspicious person with erratic behavior outside of the school.

“There’s a young man down the street. He actually has no shirt on, carrying a backpack, swatting at stuff, staggering,” a woman told dispatchers in a 9-1-1 call obtained by this newsroom. “I’m not sure what he’s doing.”

Another 9-1-1 call stated, “he was taking his shoes and socks off.”

Due to this suspicious person, a hold-in-place with students and staff was taken as a precautionary measure.

The man is in police custody and students are safe.

The school also resumed a normal schedule.
