She’s received a total 1,800 applications for the 59 hourly production positions open.
“We’re still going through the applications. We have not gone through all of them yet,” Polyak said.
SunCoke Energy, a business unit of Sunoco Inc. that will become its own separate company, is currently building a $360 million coke plant located near Yankee Road in Middletown. It will have a total of 117 employees when it opens in the fall of this year, said Mike White, SunCoke senior vice president of operations and plant engineering.
At the job fair, all jobs, duties and requirements will be listed. Those interested can sit down and fill out an application, and if they intend to do so, Polyak suggested bringing a resume. Workforce One of Butler County will have a representative on hand to provide information on its services, such as resume help and interview workshops, she said.
Palmer Temps will be there because its handling clerical positions.
SunCoke’s hiring plan breaks down to 59 hourly production positions, 14 supervisor slots, such as team leaders and 16 other salary jobs including support positions, such as quality manager. Applications were first accepted for supervisor jobs Nov. 22 and hourly jobs Jan. 10. SunCoke started taking applications for the other salary positions this month, Polyak said.
Because of the job fair, the deadline for all applications is now Feb. 28. Polyak said the supervisor positions were reopened.
“We wanted to make sure we were giving members of the community every opportunity to apply,” she said.
The application process takes four to five months. Supervisors are targeted to start work April 4, about the same time interviews begin for hourly workers. All hiring is intended to be done by July.
