Suspect in robbery of Speedway in Troy is in Montgomery County Jail

A man called the lone suspect in Wednesday morning’s robbery of a Speedway on West Main Street in Troy is in the Montgomery County Jail and Troy police say they expect to file charges.

Jason Whitacre, 46, of Vandalia, is in jail pending the filing of a formal charge of aggravated robbery, according to online county jail records. He was arrested about 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the 2100 block of Malvern Avenue in Dayton and was booked into jail about three hours later.

Troy police Capt. Jeff Kunkleman on Thursday called Whitacre the lone suspect in the robbery. He reportedly was identified through a photograph taken from an in-store surveillance camera. Police released that photo to social media on Wednesday afternoon.

When the robbery was reported, police said the suspect fled with an undetermined amount of cash. There were no injuries from the robbery, which occurred about 3:15 a.m.
