‘The roof had been peeled off’: Strong winds damage warehouse in Dayton

High winds pulled the roof off a warehouse leased by Mooney and Moses Insulation on West Washington Street last night.

Joe Griffin, who works at the warehouse, said he arrived this morning before it was light out and noticed the lights were not on in the building and there were wires down in the area.

As it got lighter, he started to see more damage to the building.

“I noticed the roof had been peeled off,” he said. “The whole roof was gone. They just put this roof up about a month ago.”

Griffin said he noticed the smell of natural gas, so he turned the gas line off and contacted DP&L and Vectren.

“It’s kinda freaky,” Griffin said of the high wind speeds. “I felt it last night at my house, it shook my house.”

The warehouse had just been re-stocked with insulation, Griffin said, so he said the monetary loss could be high.

“Rain and insulation don’t mix,” he said.
