3 things to know about Dayton's tornado history

Come spring, Ohio weather can get downright beastly.

The 13-county Dayton region experienced 179 tornadoes from 1950 to 2015, according to data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. They ranged from massive to miniscule (as far as tornadoes go).

Our news partner Dayton Daily News broke down data on 179 incidents in that span, and they found some pretty amazing stuff. Here are some fast facts you may not know.

1.) 1992 was the area's biggest year for tornadoes

There were 13 tornadoes in the 13-county Dayton region that year.

2.) May and June are the biggest months for tornadoes

Some may think early spring is the most notorious time for crazy weather, but data actually shows that May and June take the cake.

3.) April 3 and July 12 have been the most active dates for tornadoes

Yeah, I know -- we just told you that May and June are the biggest months. However, these are the most active DATES, with six tornadoes each.
