Feb. 2004 - Serves in the U.S. Army Reserve 724th Transportation Company as a motor transport operator.
April 9, 2004 – Private First Class Maupin captured after his fuel convoy was attacked near Baghdad International Airport. For months, Maupin only soldier listed as captured in Iraq.
April 16, 2004 - Captors release videotape showing a man who identified himself as Maupin.
June 28, 2004 – Another video depicts an execution of a man by gunshot, but Army investigators can't positively identify Maupin as the victim in the videotape.
August 2004 – Maupin's parents start the Yellow Ribbon Support Center, an effort to both send care packages to troops in Iraq and get Matt's story and photos of his face across Iraq in the hopes that would found.
March 2008 – Authorities receive a tip from an Iraqi citizen and recover human remains northwest of Baghdad on March 20. DNA testing verifies the remains as Maupin.
April 27, 2008 – Maupin's memorial service held at Great American Ball Park. Promoted three times while missing, Staff Sgt. Matt Maupin buried at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Montgomery.
