Township contest aims to help restaurants, jobs in COVID-19 shut down

Miami Twp. is holding a contest aimed at supporting local restaurants during the Ohio stay-at-home order due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Participants are asked to use any item provided with a restaurant meal to build a creation of their choosing with the winner earning a $50 gift certificate, according to the township.

“We decided it would be a great way to support some of our local businesses while giving people an opportunity to get creative while they are stuck at home,” township Community Development Director Chris Snyder said.

Entering the contest is also a way that could help save food industry jobs, he added.

“Those are the businesses, primarily, on the retail side that are still open,” Snyder said. “So we really wanted to help support the smaller businesses. Some of them are struggling to make ends meet while they try to wait this out.”

Guidelines to enter the contest can be found at https://www.miamitownship.com/. Submissions will be judged on the following categories:

•Inclusion of locally sourced item(s)

•Creativity and ingenuity

•Content and difficulty of build

•Expression of support

•Miami Twp. extra credit.

Up to five points will be awarded in each category with a maximum score of 25, according to the township. Submissions will be accepted through April 20. All projects will be judged by three township officials or staff within one week of the submission deadline, according to the township.

Township staff, employees and their families are not eligible to enter.

The winner will be announced on both the Miami Twp. website and on the township’s Facebook page shortly thereafter and will receive a $50 gift card to Skyline Chili at the Dayton Mall, according to the township.
