The truck was carrying the piglets to a farm in Indiana when the crash occurred on the northbound I-75 ramp to westbound I-70.
Most of the pigs survived the wreck, though the exact number will not be known until the living pigs are sorted and counted once they arrive at the farm.
Only the far left was open for traffic on I-75 while crews handled the incident, but all lanes have since reopened.
UPDATE @ 9:45 p.m.
The tractor-trailer had 2,500 piglets aboard when it overturned tonight on the northbound Interstate 75 ramp to westbound I-70.
The truck driver was not hurt.
Some of the piglets escaped but most remained inside the trailer. Others were injured or perished in the crash, but it was not known how many, Sgt. Dallas Root of the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Dayton Post said.

“We’re going to get a secondary truck here to unload it,” Root said, and then the piglets will be transferred to the second trailer.
While the sergeant said alcohol and drugs are not suspected “I would say speed could have something to do with it,” he said.

“As you can tell a lot of times especially in this 70-75 corridor we do have a lot of semi trucks that do overturn going around these lengthy turns. A lot of times it seems to be eastbound to northbound. It’s not as common to have northbound to westbound but that’s what we have tonight,” Root said.
Troopers will try to keep the far left lane open, but will have to close it once a second truck and wrecker arrives.
It could take about three hours, he said.
