Two people were taken to the hospital Monday after a crash in the area of state Route 49 and U.S. Route 127.

Deputies along with Greenville Twp. Fire and Rescue responded around 5:35 p.m. to the two-vehicle crash.

A 1997 Ford F-150, driven by Shane Grant, 19, of Arcanum, was getting off the U.S. Route 127 ramp onto state Route 49 when he pulled into the path of a 2015 Ram, driven by Ernest Varvel, 70, of Arcanum, according to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.

Grant then struck the driver’s side door of the van, which then became lodged under the truck and caused heavy damage to both vehicles.

Ernest and his passenger, Debra Varvel, 60, of Arcanum, were both treated on scene and then transported to Wayne HealthCare for non-life-threatening injuries.

Grant was checked out on scene, but refused further treatment.

The crash remains under investigation.
