“There was a birthday party at the shelter,” said Steve Koob, who added that people scattered from the shelter to help search for the missing kids. “I was looking in a different direction, so I wasn’t there when they pulled them out of the water.”

Koob assisted with searching for the boys Sunday afternoon and said his grandson wanted to leave because of the commotion, but having 18 grandchildren of his own he insisted on helping.
“We need to be here to help these people and offer whatever help we can,” Koob said.
The toddlers were transported to Dayton Children’s Hospital for treatment and we’re still working to learn their names and conditions.

The two boys were unconscious when pulled from the Dayton river after wandering from a family gathering.
9-1-1 calls to dispatchers revealed that people on scene attempted to do CPR.
Both children are at Dayton Children’s Hospital, according to initial reports.

The conditions of two toddlers pulled from the Great Miami River unconscious remain unknown, according to dispatchers.
In three 9-1-1 calls to dispatchers, callers can be heard requesting medics for two children between the ages of two and three.
“Two boys they fell in the water at Island MetroPark. I need an ambulance here stat,” one caller told dispatchers.
Screams and wails can be heard in the background as dispatchers asked callers if they, or anyone at the scene, knew CPR.
“A couple people trying CPR. I don’t know if they’re getting anywhere [...] I know the one has had some training and it looks like she knows what she is doing,” a male caller told dispatchers.
Emergency crews arrived to the scene shortly after 6 p.m. and took both of the children to Dayton Children’s Hospital.
MetroParks Sgt. Ben Becker said the children were part of a larger group of about 20 people at the park for a family event.

One of the two children found unresponsive near Island MetroPark is conscious, while the other child's condition remains unknown, according to metropark police.
Police told our crew two toddlers of unknown ages had wandered from a family gathering at one of the park's shelters.
One of the children could be heard crying when put into an ambulance, according to police.
MetroParks Sgt. Ben Becker said passers-by on bicycles noticed the children before pulling them out of the water and beginning CPR.
Both toddlers are at Dayton Children's Hospital. Our crew reports an investigation into the call is ongoing.

INITIAL REPORT
Two children are unresponsive after having been pulled from river waters near Island MetroPark in Dayton.
Emergency crews were sent to the 100 block of East Helena Street just before 6 p.m. Sunday.
Dispatchers said the two children were found in the water near an unknown area of the park.
CPR is being attempted by emergency crews, according to dispatchers.
