Updated indoor track open at rec center

KETTERING — The free indoor walk/run track at the Kettering Recreation Complex reopened this week after extensive structural repairs.

The 1/12th mile track circles the area above the gymnasium and is more than 20 years old. City officials said during the larger renovation project of the entire rec center, the track was completely rebuilt, with a new support structure, plywood surface and flooring that provides support and shock absorption.

“This is very exciting for our customers,” Kettering Parks Director Mary Beth Thaman said. “The track is such an asset to Kettering. The repairs were necessary and we are proud to be once again providing a functional, indoor space for walkers and runners.”

City officials said the track has more than 65,000 visitors per year.

Use of the track is free for Kettering residents with proper ID. The fee for nonresidents is $2. Adults and children age 5 and older can use the track Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
