The first three renovated auditoriums could open in the next week, according to Frank Gonzales, marketing manager for Cinemark. Cinemark has applied for a liquor permit, and Huber Heights City Council is expected to approve it tonight.
“This is a true reinvestment into the city,” Huber Heights assistant city manager Scott Falkowski said. “It’s a benchmark for entertainment in our city right there along the south side of (Interstate) 70. They’ve put a lot of work into it already, and continue to do so. They’re a good partner to help develop that area.”
The Huber Heights 16 multiplex — located at 7737 Waynetowne Blvd. — has six of its 16 screens currently open. As renovated auditoriums open to the public, the existing ones will close and go under construction, Gonzales said.
The process is expected to be completed by the end of July, he said.
“We’re excited about showing off the new renovated theaters to everybody once we complete construction,” Gonzales said. “Everybody will be excited about it and enjoy coming to Huber Heights to watch movies there.”
Movie ticket prices will not increase, Gonzales said.
The number of seats in each auditorium will be reduced. For example, a 200-seat auditorium will now seat 160 to 170 people in the luxury recliners, Gonzales said.
“Where we have gone through these remodels, even though there are less seats in the building, we’re seeing more sellouts and higher attendance levels,” Gonzales said. “We do see an increase in attendance where the loungers have gone in.”
Texas-based Cinemark, which bought Rave in 2013, operates theaters in Beavercreek, Huber Heights, Piqua and West Carrollton.
Overall, Cinemark operates 497 theaters with 5,687 screens in the United States and Latin America.
