Vandalia accepting applications for fire department positions

The City of Vandalia’s Fire Department is accepting applications for full time positions as entry level firefighter, paramedic, and fire inspector.

Applicants must meet certain qualifications, including having a valid Ohio driver’s license, an Ohio Level II firefighting certification, an Ohio paramedic certification, and successful completion of EVOC –Emergency Vehicle Operator Course. Applicants must also be at least 18 years of age.

The city will give preference to applicants with associate’s degree or two years’ college credit, at least one year of recent, successful service as a firefighter or paramedic.

An Ohio Fire Safety Inspector certification must be obtained within one year if appointed.

Applications can be found at www.vandaliaohio.org. The deadline to apply is noon, Thursday, June 15.

The base salary is $48,438, according to the city.
