Vandalia changes open gym policy at rec center

VANDALIA – The City of Vandalia approved a resolution to change the open gym schedule at the Vandalia Recreation Center, 1111 Stonequarry Rd., at their latest city council meaning.

The gymnasium has become a popular attraction to all who visit the rec center. Lately, non-members have been using the facility on a daily paid admission basis.

The facility, during peak hours, can be so full that members have issues accessing the gym. After a number of requests to free up the gym to members, the Vandalia Recreation Center will be implementing a new policy, beginning Monday, Nov. 7.

There will be two types of gym time: “Public Open Gym” and “Limited Open Gym.”

During the Public Open Gym, anyone is allowed to use the gym with paid admission. During the Limited Open Gym time, only VRC members, VRC member guests, and Vandalia residents will be permitted to use the gym.

The times for Public Open Gym at Monday through Friday 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday 7-10 a.m. There will be no Public Open Gym on Sundays.

Limited Open Gym, available to only members and their guests or Vandalia residents, will be Monday through Friday 2 p.m. to close, Saturday 10 a.m. to close, and Sunday 12 p.m. to close.

This gym policy will only impact the gymnasium. No other amenity inside the Rec Center will be affected.
