The city and the union were working toward negotiations as recently as Feb. 24, and continue to work toward an agreement, said city of Vandalia spokesman Rich Hopkins. The parties engaged in 14 negotiation meetings between Sept. 5, 2018, and Sept. 3, 2019. The parties had four negotiation sessions with a mediator between January 2019 and April 2019, according to the SERB filing.
A fact finding report was submitted on Jan. 31, and the report was rejected by the city, according to the SERB filing.
“We are working to get something figured out before (March 2),” Hopkins said. “We want to get something everyone can agree on.”
Representatives for the union did not respond to several calls for comment.
