Vandalia school district seeking bids for potential school demolition

Vandalia Butler City Schools is considering demolishing the Murlin Heights Elementary School on North Dixie Drive and is seeking a general contractor for the work, according to district officials.

The building has been closed since the end of the 2012-2013 school year because of a financial crisis in the district and the reconfiguration of its schools.

The school district is estimating $275,000 for the demolition and $200,000 for abatement to get rid of asbestos.

The school district still owns the building and property and is looking at options for the land . Official demolition has not been scheduled yet.

The board will consider each bid but has not said when it will make a decision, according to Anaka Johnson, communications and public relations coordinator for the school district.

The deadline for accepting bids was Tuesday.
