8 people injured after SUV rear-ends semi at I-70 E in Englewood

The driver of a Dodge Durango that struck the rear of a semi just after 5 p.m. on eastbound Interstate 70 at the Hoke Road overpass in Englewood was cited for failing to maintain assured clear distance, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Dayton Post.

Eight people in the Durango, who were from Linton, Indiana, were taken to Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton Children’s Hospital and Grandview Medical Center.

The most serious injury was a broken jaw, and the rest were minor injuries. The semi driver did not go to a hospital, troopers said.

UPDATE @ 6:25 p.m.

The far right lane is open on I-70 East at the Hoke Road overpass following a two-vehicle crash this evening that sent nine people to local hospitals.

A silver Dodge Durango crashed into the back of a semi just after 5 p.m. No other vehicles were involved in the crash, despite earlier reports.

There were eight occupants in the Durango, who were taken to Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton Children’s Hospital and Grandview Medical Center. One person in the semi also was taken to a local hospital.

The injuries in the crash ranged from serious to minor, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, which is investigating the crash.

FIRST REPORT

A three-vehicle crash with injuries this evening has shut down eastbound I-70.

The crash happened near Hoke Road, past state Route 49 in Englewood.

It was reported just after 5 p.m., according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Dayton Post.

According to initial reports, there are at least seven people hurt who are being taken to local hospitals.
