Verizon offers mobile unit for storm victims to charge phones, contact family

Verizon will station a generator-powered mobile unit in Dayton to allow those affected by the Memorial Day tornadoes to charge their devices and contact loved ones.

Storm victims will be able to charge their wireless phones, tablets and other devices through the mobile unit, which is equipped with device charging and computer workstations.

This will allow those affected to contact friends and family, and help keep people in the area connected.

The Wireless Emergency Communication Center will be located at the Red Cross Shelter, 700 South James H. McGee Blvd. It will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., beginning today.

“It’s open to anyone in the community, regardless of whether or not they’re a customer”, said Director Steve Van Dinter.

Verizon is also offering calling, text and data for customers in Ohio and Indiana impacted by the severe weather.

In addition to the mobile charging unit, Verizon stores throughout the area remain open for anyone to stop by and charge their devices.
