Vet opens Pets in Stitches to offer low-cost spays and neuters

MIAMISBURG — After more than 12 years in private veterinary practices — five at shelters — Dr. Danielle N. Rastetter of Kettering decided to start her own clinic dedicated to affordable, high-quality spay and neuter services for cats and dogs.

“I’ve seen how the economic changes have affected pets,” Rastetter said, noting that she often encounters owners who no longer can afford to keep their pets, let alone spay, neuter or provide ongoing medical care for them.

“They just can’t afford it,” she said. “It’s very sad.”

Rastetter opened Pets in Stitches Feb. 9 in Miamisburg.

She devoted services Wednesday and those provided today, to the Society for the Improvement of Conditions for Stray Animals and the Humane Society of Greater Dayton, respectively.

Her vision, Rastetter said, is to “reduce unnecessary euthanasia of adoptable” pets through spays, neuters and owner education.

“One thing I learned working with SICSA, you’re working in the trenches and you can improve the lives of so many animals on a much bigger impact on that level, than just helping an owner take care of their own pet,” Rastetter said.

She offers basic wellness care, such as vaccines, microchipping and parasite prevention, at the time of a spay or neuter.

A graduate of Ohio State University, Rastetter said her staff is dedicated to being compassionate.

“I’ve got some very talented people,” she said. “They all have experience with surgical care, and that’s one of their favorite areas. I just want people to have a high-quality option that they can feel comfortable with.”
