More than 130 organizations, including veteran service organizations, will be present to provide resources and jobs to support veterans and their families.
Veterans can learn about resources available in the community, talk to employers about jobs, network with other veterans, enroll for services at the Dayton VA Medical Center, get assistance with disability claims and obtain a veteran identification card.
The Dayton Regional Transit Authority and Greene CATS Public Transit will provide free rides to veterans to and from Wright State University. Proof of military service is required upon boarding.

American Red Cross plans free career workshops for veterans
Free veterans’ career assistance workshops will be held at the Greater Cincinnati-Dayton regional office of the American Red Cross in May and June. The workshops will be led by volunteers from Orion Talent, military recruiting firm.
“Orion has helped American businesses hire more than 50,000 veterans during the past 28 years,” said David Coe, Orion senior vice president and Red Cross board member. “Providing career assistance to veterans is the core of our business, and we are excited to partner with the Red Cross to continue that mission in the Cincinnati area.”
These open forms will provide job-seeking veterans or their family members with tips on networking, interviewing and resume preparation.
“Serving our military and veterans is at the very foundation of the Red Cross,” said Andrew Guidugli, director of Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces. “Our organization’s first purpose was to serve our military men and women. As their needs change throughout the years, the Red Cross continues to adapt our services to help them. These workshops are among the ways the Red Cross currently assists those who serve our country.”
Workshops will be held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 17 and June 14 at 2111 Dana Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45207. To reserve a spot in one of the workshops, email Guidugli at andrew.guidugli@redcross.org.
Deadline for hall nominations for 2019 is June 1
The deadline for submitting nominations for the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame is just weeks away, and hall organizers want to hear from those who know former service members who are excelling and making a difference in society.
Now in its 26th year, the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame recognizes those who served in the U.S. armed forces and continue to contribute to local communities, the state and nation through exceptional acts of volunteerism, advocacy, professional distinction, public service or philanthropy.
Each year, the Hall of Fame inducts up to 20 veterans based on recommendations from an Executive Committee of veterans from throughout the state and approval from the Governor of Ohio.
The deadline to submit nomination forms for consideration for the 2019 class of the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame is June 1.
Chances are you know a veteran who continues to serve selflessly in their post-military life – a former service member who is going above and beyond to impact others. (Note: The Hall of Fame also can accept nominations for those who would be inducted posthumously.)
To be considered, the veteran must meet the following criteria:
• Be a past or current Ohio resident;
• Have received an honorable discharge;
• Be of good moral character.
This hall of fame sets the standard for recognizing Ohio’s veterans for accomplishments beyond their military service. In addition, it is a fitting way to say “thank you for your service to our nation and thank you for your continued service to our communities.”
Guidelines, a sample nomination and more information are available at http://dvs.ohio.gov/main/veterans-hall-of-fame.html.
