Warren County restaurant inspections

The following are summaries of State of Ohio standard inspection reports on file, and accessible online, from the Warren County Combined Health District, from the week of August 27 to 31. District information is available online at http://www.wcchd.com/ though Inspection details are not online.

Y&M Asia Market

1085 B Reading Rd., Mason

Date of inspection: August 30

Violations: Food: Protection from contamination after receiving; Food: Identity, presentation, on-campus labeling; Equipment: Numbers and capacities; Equipment: Sanitizing of equipment and utensils; Physical facilities: Maintenance and operation

Comments:

Some packages of frozen meat do have a label. Many frozen food items say only “meat, or seafood.” The label must contain more specific information as to the species of the food to inform the consumer.

Produce being prepared on table in the meat department which could lead to cross contamination. All produce must be prepared in the side room specifically for this purpose.

No bleach available for sanitizing. Without a sanitizer you have nothing to kill bacteria and prevent cross contamination. Bleach must be obtained immediately and put into use.

The wall in the produce area is unfinished. All surfaces must be smooth and easily cleanable.

Large number of flies in the produce area. Flies must be excluded as much as possible as they can carry diseases.

The test strips I was shown are not for bleach. They are for quat which according to my knowledge this facility has never used. Strips are needed to test safe and effective levels.

Wildflower Café and Coffee House

207 East Main St., Mason

Date of inspection: August 28

Violations: Food: Protection from contamination after receiving; Equipment: Cleaning of equipment and utensils

Comments: Areas of the kitchen such as shelving over prep area need more frequent cleaning.

Whole Foods Market

5805 Deerfield Blvd., Mason

Date of inspection: August 29

Violations: Food: Identity, presentation, on-premises labeling; Equipment: Protection of clean items

Comments:

Critical violation: Cakes that were labeled only as slice of cake do not have ingredient labels (do have may contain labels). All prepackaged self-service foods must have complete ingredient labels to inform consumers of possible food allergens. Corrected. The cake was pulled from the case and placed behind the counter.

Unwrapped coffee stirs out for customer self-service. Coffee stirs must either be prewrapped or individually dispensed to prevent contamination by consumers.

Overall the facility looks great and you have done a good job with the labeling of product. A re-inspection will be conducted on Sept. 12 to ensure that corporate was able to get the ingredients on the slices of cakes.

Viva Tequila

2424 Kings Mill Rd., Mason

Date of inspection: August 29

Violations: Food: Protection from contamination after receiving

Comments:

Large working containers of rice and beans unlabeled. All working containers of food ingredients must be properly identified to prevent misuse which can lead to an allergic reaction if used improperly. Corrected at time of inspection.

Ice scoop resting on top of ice maker. Between-use utensils must be stored in a manner to prevent contamination. Corrected at time of inspection.

Ceiling tiles in front kitchen near vent has accumulation of debris. All physical facilities shall remain clean so that they do not become a source of contamination or attract pests.

VFW Post 8202

315 Second St., Morrow

Date of inspection: August 30

Violations: Equipment: Design and construction

Comments: Home type equipment in kitchen (refrigerator and stove). All equipment must be commercial grade and approved by a certified testing agency. (This equipment predated the 2001 food code and is therefore grandfathered until the equipment no longer can maintain temperature. Once equipment no longer maintains temperatures the equipment must be replaced with commercial grade equipment that is approved by a certified testing agency.)

Thirsty’s Oasis Sports Bar & Grill

5579-A State Route 741, Mason

Date of inspection: August 29

Violations: Equipment: Design and construction; Physical facilities: Numbers and capacities

Comments:

Paper towels should be in the dispenser and not sitting on a shelf to prevent contamination.

Food there reads 50° at room temperature and therefore is not accurate for safe food temperatures. The thermometer you have can be calibrated.
