“I kinda felt that he had the ‘fit’,” said Matt Layer, president of the Warren County United Way, about Reid. “He’s coming from a four-county United Way organization that is about the same size as ours.”
Layer said Reid, who starts work on Monday, “does his work, knows his stuff and will be a problem-solver for us.... We’re at a place where we know to grow. He’s the guy to help us tackle that.”
He said Reid had already done a lot of background work on the Warren County United Way.
“Of the six people who interviewed him, everyone came out and said ‘this is the guy,’” Layer said. “I’m really excited.”
Layer declined to provide information on Reid’s salary.
Reid has held leadership positions with the National MS Society-Maryland Chapter and The Salvation Army of Greater Columbus. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Florida Atlantic University and a master’s degree from the University of Maryland.
“It is truly an honor to be selected to serve as the executive director,” Reid said in a written statement. “... I look forward to working with the entire community in continuing to expand the tremendous impact of this important organization.”
The hiring of Reid marks the end of a three-month search to fill the position after Michael Schepers resigned in April.
“We believe that Aaron’s strengths will allow him to understand the challenges facing our communities and that he will develop the necessary partnerships, coalitions and programs to fulfill the mission of WCUW,” Layer said.
