Weather service checking storm damage

Springfield News-Sun Reporter Matt Sanctis supplied information for this story

URBANA, Ohio--The National Weather Service is investigating storm damage in western Champaign County Sunday evening and early this morning is the result of a tornado.

Along with reviewing data and radar information, the NWS will also review the on-site damage caused by the storm.

Craig Evans, director of the Champaign County Emergency Management Agency, said an unoccupied mobile home in the 5700 block of Church Road was destroyed by the storm.

He addded most of the damage involved trees, but there were reports of trees falling onto homes. No one was injured.

Evans pointed out the situation could have been worse because several residents are camping out at the Champaign County Fairgrounds this weekend. The fair continues through Friday.
