What local cities are doing today for National Night Out, which connects community and law enforcement

This year marks the 35th anniversary of National Night Out, an event meant to connect community and law enforcement that happens every year the first Tuesday in August. It is a community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places.

Multiple area cities will be hosting a National Night Out with their local police departments.

Vandalia

Vandalia Police Department will host its National Night Out on Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Vandalia Sports Complex on Stonequarry Road.

Vandalia’s event will have child fingerprinting, bike registration, police and fire equipment and multiple people on staff to talk about crime and fire prevention.

There will also be a bike rodeo for children and the Vandalia Bicycle Committee will give away two children’s bicycles.

Kettering

Kettering Police Department will host its annual National Night Out on Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in front of the Town and Country Shopping Center on Stroop Road.

The event will have food, games, prizes, spin art, inflatables for kids, a magic show and music.

Butler Township

Butler Township Police Department will host its National Night Out on Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 4000 Singing Hills Boulevard.

The police and fire departments will be in attendance and there will be food, bounce houses, ninja obstacle course, games, door prizes and more. K-9 officer Zorro will also be there.

West Carrollton

West Carrollton Police Department will host its National Night Out event on Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Wilson Park Pool on South Elm Street.

The police and fire departments will have vehicles on display, U.S. Army vehicle on display, Fairborn Police Department’s K-9 officer Bac and his handler Officer Joe Pence, bicycle and helmet giveaways, backpack and school supplies giveaways, family membership giveaway to the YMCA, activities for kids and business vendors.

Trotwood

Trotwood Police Department will host its National Night Out event on Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Home Depot on Salem Avenue.

There will be food, games, water wars and a dunk tank.

Huber Heights

Huber Heights Police Department will host its National Night Out event on Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Wayne High School on Chambersburg Road.

There will be close to 30 businesses and organizations in attendance that include CareFlight, U.S. Army Recruiters, WHS band and Warriorettes, Dayton Bomb Squad and other emergency vehicles.

The event will have food, inflatables, dunk a cop, archery trailer and U.S. Army Bungee Crawl Challenge.

Centerville

Centerville Police Department will host a Mystery Night Out event that is part of National Out Night on Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Stubbs Park amphitheater on West Spring Valley Pike.

Those who register can participate in a detective scenario called “Safeguard your Treasures,” and the groups collect clues that lead to prizes. It is all to teach the residents their own safety and to reduce and prevent crime in their neighborhoods.

Every pre-registrant will receive a t-shirt, will require a team captain and a participant with a valid driver’s license.

Riverside

Riverside Police Department will host its National Night Out event on Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Stebbins High School on Harshman Road.

There will be hot dogs and hamburgers, drinks, Kona ice, activities and prizes for the family to enjoy. Police and Fire equipment will be on display for all who attend.

Miamisburg

Miamisburg Police Department will host its National Night Out event on Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Miamisburg Christian Church on East Central Avenue.

There will be music, food, activities, inflatables, games, a dunk a cop and giveaways.

Miami Township

Miami Township Police Department will host its National Night Out on Tuesday that starts at 6 p.m.

There will be more than a dozen block parties and a big gathering at Austin Landing located on Rigby Road. There will be representatives from the Dayton Metro Library, Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office, Dayton Police Department’s Honor Guard, Dayton SWAT Team and the Ohio Police Canine Memorial organization.

Moraine

Moraine Police Department will host its National Night Out event on Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 3800 Main Street.

The department will have cotton candy, hot air balloon rides, dunk tank, hot dogs, bounce houses, slip ‘n slides, prizes, snow cones and a water balloon fight.

Dayton

Dayton Police Department along with city leaders and the fire department will host its National Night out on Tuesday starting at 4:25 p.m. at City Hall.

Instead of just one stop, they city will host a bus to make a tour around the city. They will start at City Hall and make its rounds to 10 Wilmington Place, Dayton Children’s, Old North Dayton, Dayton Veterans Administration, Residence Park, Desoto Bass and to end at the Oregon District.
