What residents, city leaders say about Miami Twp. trash issue

Miami Township leaders are in the process of meeting with officials from Rumpke after disruptions in service have occasionally left some neighborhoods with sporadic service in recent weeks.

“Five weeks in a row we’ve had the same issue,” Linda Beaver, a Miami Twp. resident said. “If I pay for a service, I expect the service, and if I don’t get the service I shouldn’t have to pay the bill.”

Beaver says trash day is supposed to be Wednesday, and sometimes trash ends up all over the neighborhood.

“You can’t predict it. You put your trash out on Tuesday evening and just wait and hope they show up,” she said. “You’re never sure when they’re coming to collect the trash.”

Miami Twp. leaders raised these concerns last week with one staff member saying there was a “systemic problem” and another saying “their service is terrible.”

Rumpke officials, who serves the township, told News Center 7's Sean Cudahy they met with Miami Twp. leaders on Monday about the problem with the service.

The company said they were “working diligently to remedy any service issues” and that their “operations team has been hands on and is looking into refining routing.”
