“I’m honored,” Perry said. “It’s particularly appreciated because it comes from my hometown.”
Perry was selected because she is a Trotwood resident and serves as a role model for the city as well as the Miami Valley, according to Ciara Lewis, the event organizer. Perry exudes professionalism to the community as a whole.
“She has the outstanding ability to reach and inspire people daily,” McDonald said.

The women being honored were nominated by citizens and city staff who submitted a nomination form through the city Facebook page or website. It gives the opportunity for people to nominate a mother in the Trotwood community.
“It has been one of the stellar events for reaching out to our community,” McDonald said.
Mothers nominated have shown service and accomplishments in the community in their own unique ways.
“I do things because I feel like I’m called to do it,” Perry said.
She is a graduate of Meadowdale High School and Central Michigan University. She spent time after graduation working in Michigan and Columbus before accepting a position at WHIO-TV in 2001 as a general assignment reporter.
“I have an affinity for students and senior citizens,” Perry said.
She is the mother of twins, Jade and Jewel, and is a morning and noon anchor for News Center 7.
The other eight mothers being recognized are Diane Costner, Gayle Gibbons, Amber Ross- Brown, Dr. Daria Graham, Elveria Brown- Goolsby, Nikki Parker, Hope Kelley and Virginia Ward.
