Winter Weather Advisory in effect for most; wintry mix drops snow, sleet

Darke County is under a Level 1 Snow Emergency.  Roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. Roads also may be icy. Motorists are urged to drive with caution.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect through 10 a.m. Thursday for Auglaize, Champaign, Clark, Darke, Logan, Mercer, Miami, Montgomery, Preble, Shelby and Wayne, Indiana, counties.

DETAILED FORECAST

Overnight: There still may be a scattered light wintry mix, but nowhere near the Wednesday evening activity, Storm Center 7 Meteorologist Dontae Jones said. Roads, sidewalks and cars are icy and snow-covered in some cases in areas near and north of Interstate 70, which saw prolonged periods of a wintry mix containing snow and freezing rain. Ice accumulation is possible in the areas included in the Winter Weather Advisory. Snow/sleet accumulations were projected between 1 and 2 inches in the far northwest (Auglaize, Darke and Mercer counties). Areas south and east of Dayton likely will see more rain as temperatures hold above freezing overnight.

Thursday: A wintry mix will fall in the morning. A glaze of ice and light snow accumulation is possible. The most hazardous driving conditions from freezing rain likely will be along and north of I-70. Untreated roads will be especially prone to to icy conditions. Activity will taper off into the late morning for a brief break during the afternoon. It will be cloudy, cold and breezy with highs around 40 degrees. At night, light snow showers are expected to arrive.

Friday: Some light snow showers are possible. Accumulation won't be much, but roads could be slick. Highs will be in the middle 30s, which is normal for this time of year.

Saturday: Skies will be cloudy with some flurries possible and highs in the middle 30s.

Sunday: Some dry time ends the weekend with a mix of sun and clouds with highs around 40 degrees. Clouds will increase at night with a few rain or snow showers.

Monday: Scattered rain showers are possible, with highs in the low 40s.
