Woman accidentally shot in restaurant parking lot

A woman is recovering after she was accidentally shot in a restaurant parking lot on Saturday afternoon.

Kristy Godown, 40, of Greenville, was hit in the elbow by a man target shooting at a nearby farm on Russia Road. The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said the man didn’t have an adequate backstop, allowing rounds to reach the parking lot of Cruizer’s Bar & Grill on North Street.

The man was using a 22-caliber rifle. The weapon has a mile-radius, but he was only standing a quarter mile from the restaurant parking lot, Shelby County Sheriff John Lenhart said.

The man, Matthew Cordonnier, has been charged with negligence.

The woman’s injury was not considered life-threatening. She was taken to Wayne Hospital in Greenville.
