A campaign to save an Ohio woman’s pet deer is quickly gaining attention online.

Jodi Proger took to Facebook after the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) visited her home on Wednesday.

Proger took in the deer as a fawn, who she has named Wheezer, after its mother was hit by a car and died 2 years ago.

The post now has almost 20,000 shares and an online petition to save the pet has more than 11,000 signatures.

According to the ODNR, no decision has been made on whether or not Wheezer would be taken, and the matter is still under investigation as of Sunday.

They visited Proger’s home after receiving a complaint that she was housing a wild animal without a permit, which is against the law.

A representative from the ODNR said that permits to house deer are generally not granted, and the organization usually advises those who discover orphaned deer to contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator.
