A woman who was charged in a dogfighting operation inside her home was sentenced on Wednesday morning.

Michelle Orrender was sentenced to 18 months in prison for holding dog fights inside her house and in the back yard in the 2100 block of Litchfield Avenue.

Orrender, 36, appeared before Judge Michael Tucker on Wednesday morning for her sentencing. In April, detectives confiscated 17 pit bulls from her house.

Investigators said Orrender also cut the ears off a 5-week-old puppy using scissors. Police said they also found a treadmill with paw prints on it and blood spatters on the walls.

In September, Orrender entered a plea deal to four felony counts of dogfighting and one misdemeanor count of practicing veterinary medicine without a license.

In January 2010, Orrender's pit pulls got loose and attacked an officer and two men. According to court documents, she pleaded guilty to three misdemeanor counts of failing to license and register her dogs last year.
