Xenia City Council votes for more money to fix streets

Road repairs are getting underway in Xenia, where city leaders have allotted more money to fix potholes and other damages left by “an extremely brutal winter,” according to a release from the city.

A minimum of $500,000 is typically set aside to address road repairs but council members decided more was needed this year, according to the release.

“Due in-part to citizen concerns ... Xenia City Council voted unanimously to add additional funding totaling $1.2 million dollars to mostly patch and repave the worst affected portions of thoroughfare streets in the city,” according to the release.

With state and federal grants combined with the city’s allocation, a total of $2.8 million is being devoted to fix streets this year.

Allison Avenue

West Second Street

West Church Street

North Galloway Road

Union road

Repaving has already occurred on Progress Drive and Detroit Street.

Xenia city leaders have started the “Streets Solutions Committee” to discuss ways to fix the streets and fund repairs and maintenance. The overall cost for necessary work to fix Xenia’s streets is estimated at more than $30 million.
