The firearm belonged to a family member and was unsecured, according to reports from our news partner WCPO-TV.
Cincinnati police responded around 10:15 a.m. to the 900 block of Burton Avenue in the city’s North Avondale neighborhood.
It isn’t clear whether the young child shot himself or someone else shot him.
Capt. Martin Mack said there were other children in the apartment at the time, but none of them were injured, WCPO reported.
