They weren't injured and managed to escape the car before it went under completely, Beavercreek police Sgt. David Darkow said, and police officers helped the three out of the water.

Police and fire/rescue units were dispatched to a pond in the area of Lakeview and Edgewater drives, near the Village at Stone Falls apartments on Clubhouse  Drive, about 5:45 p.m.

The sergeant said the incident remains under investigation, so he couldn't say whether the 18-year-old would be cited for driver inattention. He said the accident likely was a case of driver inexperience.

Tow trucks were still on scene into the evening, working to fish the vehicle out of the water.

There are blue tarps on the roofs of some of the buildings at the complex that were hit during the Memorial Day tornado outbreak.
