15-year-old killed in Sidney stabbing identified

A 15-year-old boy died after being stabbed in Sidney Thursday night over a reportedly disrespectful text sent to the suspect’s girlfriend has been identified.

Cody Powers was pronounced dead on Friday, according to Montgomery County Coroner Kent Harshbarger.

The cause and manner of death have not been determined at this time.

Crews responded to the 700 block of Dingman Street around 10:17 p.m. on reports of a stabbing.

Powers was found with a serious knife wound to his stomach.

He was taken to Wilson Health for initial treatment and then transported to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton before dying from his injuries.

After speaking to witnesses, detectives found the teen was stabbed by another 15-year-old boy who went to the Powers’ Dingman Street home with three others to challenge the victim and a acquaintance of the victim to a fight, according to police.

The suspect was reportedly upset about a disrespectful text sent to his girlfriend.

He was charged with one count of murder and taken to the West Central Juvenile Detention Center in Troy.
