Officers on scene told WHIO the shooting took place on Karwin Avenue where the victim and two friends, aged 11 to 13, were walking through a field.
A greenish teal SUV is said to have made a U-turn to shoot the victim.
The bullet fully passed through the 11-year-old's hand.
The three juveniles traveled to a home in the 3600 block of Otterbein Avenue where they knew the residents.
Police arrived on scene and the victim was taken to Dayton Children's.
There are no suspects at this time.
