Berberich will become the senior vice president for academic affairs at the University of Huston-Clear Lake, according to the email. UH-Clear Lake is a four-year institution located in Houston with more than 8,500 students enrolled, according to the school’s website.
“Steven has been a valued member of Wright State University for more than 30 years, as a student, faculty member, and leader,” outgoing WSU provost Tom Sudkamp wrote in the email announcement.
Berberich was appointed associate provost at WSU in 2013 and has also served as a professor of biochemistry and molecular biology. He earned his bachelor’s degree in biology and his doctorate in biomedical science from Wright State.

“I am proud of my efforts as a faculty member and faculty-administrator at WSU,” Berberich said via email. “I am excited to be named the Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs/Provost at the University of Houston Clear Lake (UHCL) and take what I have learned here to help leaders, faculty and staff at UHCL continue to build on opportunities and tackle challenges.”
Under his direction, Wright State restructured its Center for Teaching and Learning, according to the university. He also established Wright State’s Center for Genomics Research and worked on the university’s “Wright Leader Academy” which increased faculty development opportunities on campus, according to WSU.
