The gap does not appear to have been caused at all by specific work hours or customer discrimination toward female drivers.
“Our results suggest that there is no reason to expect the ‘gig’ economy to close gender differences,” the report states.
The gender pay gap is a common term used to refer to the difference in salaries between men and women who work in the same jobs.
Women earn just over 77 cents less for every dollar earned by a man, according to the statistics website PayScale. A recent Pew Research Center study found that the pay gap has decreased since 1980 but it would still take an extra 47 days of work for women to earn what men did last year.
